What a travel insurance policy does is to package up many different types of insurance into a single bundle that you can take with you when you travel overseas. You get a policy stuffed with cover specifically designed for holidays to interesting, exotic and distant lands with unfamiliar customs and laws. A good policy also has a few extra optional bits and offers these as well so you can fine tune it to your liking. That's a lot of cover. Medical, personal possessions, baggage, cancellation, dental, pet and more. Most policies provide at least £10M of emergency medical insurance to cover hospital costs, surgery and medicines. Considering your policy may only have cost a few pounds you could say that's pretty good value.

How will you look after me if I'm sick or have an accident overseas

Overseas Emergency Medical Assistance is a specialist service and requires dedicated medical experts to ensure that you are getting the most appropriate medical treatment if you are unfortunate enough to have an accident or fall ill while you are away. Our Emergency Medical Assistance is undertaken by Healix and their multilingual team who handle thousands of medical emergencies and escorted repatriations around the world every year. Their Emergency Medical Care units apply the highest medical standards to hospitals and treatment centres operating in countries and regions that have poor medical resources. Keeping Promises

How do I know you will pay my claim

One of the most important things is that you know what you are covered for and what you are not covered for when you buy your policy. That way you won't have any shocks if you need to make a claim.

Don't think everything is covered, it isn't. And there is usually always an excess to pay. Just imagine if everyone could claim for everything. How many staff would be needed to handle all those claims, and just think how much your insurance policy would cost. The excess is a way of sharing a little bit of the risk with you and this helps to bring the cost down for everyone. The big things are certainly usually covered but the small things sometimes are not.

Of course when you do make a claim it doesn't matter how much your claim is for, whether it's £100 or £1,000, getting your claim dealt with quickly is what's important. The claims team should keep you informed but it's worthwhile asking them how long your claim will take. But remember if it turns out to be more complicated than it first looked it may take longer to process than they thought. If it's a medical claim they will need to contact all the hospitals, get the medical reports and so on.

Even so, if you think your claim is taking longer than you'd like you're not going to think much of us. We don't want that, so if you're feeling ignored just contact us and we will find out what's going on. There's usually a good reason you might just not have been told what it is.

Are you regulated by the Government

Because we're based in the UK we're regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (firm reference number 538464) so we can't just do what we want. As an insurance business, all our activities are strictly regulated. The FCA was set-up by the government to ensure financial services firms are being fair and following certain principles of conduct and it has some of the toughest financial regulation in the world. The FCA can punish us if they think we are being unfair so we try hard to make sure we're doing the right thing.

However nobody's perfect and we recognise that sometimes we get things wrong. If this happens you need to tell us as soon as possible so we can do whatever we can to make it right for you, and for the next person too. Simply send us an email from your online Member Account or just give us a call.
